Reading can be a powerful tool for a writer who is stuck on the page. Some writers revisit favorite books to rouse their creativity, while others, like Zadie Smith, turn to alternate genres. Smith told UK bookseller Foyles, “It helps a prose writer to read poetry and be thus reminded that it’s possible to write a sentence in which every word is essential.” A group of authors shares their favorite reads that help them through a writing stalemate.
